Watch: Footage goes viral of Sandton restaurant shooting

Gunshots rang out at Solo Sandton, leaving three dead and four injured in a shooting linked to a businessman previously arrested for a similar incident.

Video footage has gone viral of gunshots ringing out at a deadly shooting at Solo Sandton, where three people died and four others were injured.

Sandton Chronicle reports the shooting on Thursday shocked the normally lively and bustling Sandton nightlife.

Local police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirms a case of murder and attempted murder. “The man with a firearm wanted to enter the restaurant, which has a no-firearm policy, and that is when the altercation started, leading to a shooting between the man’s bodyguards and security guards.”

Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene. Five others — the shooter, two patrons, a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member, and a security guard — were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries. The shooter later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Sandton CPF, the member who responded to the scene was shot but is recovering in hospital.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man who started this has previously been arrested for a shooting incident, also in Sandton last year. No one has been arrested, and police investigations continue,” Nevhuhulwi adds.

Businessman linked to prior shooting

The man who initiated the shooting is a well-known businessman who was involved in a shooting at Tempo’s last year.
