Watch: Child (6) killed, another critical after water tanker crashes into KZN homes
A child’s body was retrieved from under the wreckage two hours after a water tanker crashed into two homes.
A six-year-old child was one of two people killed when a water tanker crashed into two homes in Edendale in KZN last night.
The Witness reports that according to Mi7 National Group, its emergency medical services attended the scene, where a tanker transporting drinking water lost control, veered off the roadway, and collided with two houses.
Upon arrival, Mi7 EMS crews found extensive devastation.
Other emergency service providers had already transported five people from the scene, including a 13 year old who had been extricated from under the wreckage and was in a critical condition, two adults, and a six-month-old baby.
The driver of the tanker was also taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Mi7 EMS teams remained on site to assist with ongoing rescue operations. Two more people were unaccounted for, prompting an extensive extrication effort led by the Pietermaritzburg Fire Department and SAPS Search and Rescue teams.
Two hours into the search, rescuers located the body of a six-year-old child trapped beneath the debris.
Another two hours later, the body of an adult woman was recovered. Mi7 EMS paramedics declared both victims dead at the scene.
