Mpumalanga mother of 2 killed in axe attack: Children’s father arrested

A swift investigation led to a man’s arrest after a woman was murdered and dumped in the street.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of his children’s mother in Schoemansdal, Mpumalanga.

Lowvelder reports that Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, says the suspect and the victim (31) had a heated argument on Monday.

The victim was attacked with an axe, allegedly by the suspect, resulting in her death.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim have two children together. After the attack, the suspect allegedly left her lifeless body in the street. Police and other relevant stakeholders were summoned to the scene. A swift investigation led to the suspect’s arrest,” she says.

Ndubane says the suspect is expected to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court today, facing a charge of murder.

Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi condemned the inhumane act and urges community members to seek help when experiencing domestic or relationship problems, rather than resorting to violence.

He emphasises that gender-based violence remains a serious threat to the safety and well-being of women and children in our communities.
