Murder accused to face extra charges as Pinetown court sets bail date
Nicolas le Roux faces additional charges ahead of his bail hearing for the fatal shooting of his wife, Taryn.
The Pinetown Magistrate’s Court revealed that 68-year-old Nicolas le Roux, who is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Taryn, at a popular pub in Westville on September 15, will face additional charges.
According to Highway Mail, Le Roux appeared briefly in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today.
Among the additional charges Le Roux will face is one of possession of an unlicensed firearm. His Legal Aid lawyer, Mandisi Mathebula, informed the court he still needs approval from his superiors to formally represent Le Roux. The case was postponed again to allow time for this process.
When Le Roux entered the courtroom, he looked around and smiled when he recognised familiar faces.
Bank statements were handed over to his lawyer, which will help Legal Aid assess whether Le Roux qualifies for state assistance.
Le Roux stated that he’s a contract worker and does not earn a salary when in South Africa, hence requiring Legal Aid.
The judge emphasised that the next appearance, scheduled for Wednesday, will be for bail consideration if Legal Aid agrees to represent him.
If he is not eligible to be represented by Legal Aid, the judge advised Le Roux that he will have to get his own lawyer.
Le Roux previously missed a court appearance, on Wednesday, reportedly due to not responding when called for transport at Westville Prison.
The judge advised both Mathebula and public prosecutor Cameron Roode to be prepared and available for the bail hearing should Legal Aid be in a position to represent him.
