Videos: Police probe Joburg shooting that claimed taxi association chairperson
A deadly Marlboro Gardens ambush left two people dead, including taxi association chairperson Molefe Moekeletsi.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi has confirmed that police are investigating a case of murder with two counts and attempted murder with three counts.
According to Alex News, this follows a deadly shooting in Marlboro Gardens, Johannesburg, this morning, which claimed the lives of two individuals, including Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand and Sandton Taxi Association chairperson Molefe Moekeletsi.
Vehicles ambushed by gunmen
“Two vehicles that were driving together were ambushed by unknown suspects who were allegedly driving a white BMW,” Nevhuhulwi said.
She confirmed that two people died at the scene, while three others sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
“The driver of an Audi [died], and from the Mahindra vehicle, there were four people [in transit], and one person was also shot dead, and the other three have been taken to the hospital,” she said.

Chaos on the road
The shooting also triggered a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Viola Avenue and 1st Avenue involving several cars, including a red Toyota Avanza.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle with an unconfirmed number of suspects crashed into a silver e-hailing vehicle while fleeing the scene.
The owner of the e-hailing service, a 33-year-old man who requested anonymity, said two passengers, a man and a woman, were inside.
