Bloemfontein court jails man who ‘lost his temper’ and killed his child
A father has been sentenced to 20 years after his six-year-old son was beaten to death in front of a minor sibling.
The Bloemfontein Regional Court has sentenced a 29-year-old man to 20 years’ imprisonment for the murder of his son in 2023.
According to Bloemfontein Courant, Free State police spokesperson Thabo Covane explains that the incident occurred while the perpetrator was bathing his six-year-old son. “[The man] lost his temper and started assaulting the young boy with open hands and clenched fists in full view of his 14-year-old brother,” Covane says.
Fatal assault
He adds that the brother left for school while the father continued beating the victim. When the brother returned home, he found the victim lying motionless on the green couch, not breathing.
Police and medical services were contacted and the victim was declared dead on the scene. A case of murder was opened.
The identity of the father is withheld to protect the minor witness.
