Reward offered after stabbing at uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve

A violent robbery on a popular uMhlanga nature trail has triggered increased patrols and a reward as authorities hunt the suspect.

A R5 000 reward has been offered for any information that will lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in the stabbing and robbery of a woman along the nature trail in the uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve last Friday.

Northglen News reports that according to a source, the incident occurred near the bridge over the uMhlanga estuary.

The 46-year-old woman, on holiday from Gauteng, was accosted by a suspect with a knife who stabbed her during the robbery.

The uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has now offered a reward.

Attack and robbery

In the incident, the armed suspect made off with the victim’s cellphone. Security officers responded and searched for the suspect but only recovered a hat the victim was wearing during the robbery.

She was treated at a local hospital and has since been discharged and has returned to Gauteng.

Increased patrols

Since the incident, Basil Pather, the conservation manager at the reserve, confirmed there had been increased patrols by KZN Wildlife staff, supplemented by UIP security staff.

There are currently three security guards patrolling the reserve.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect is urged to contact 086 111 2050.
