Reward offered for info after uMhlanga reserve robbery

The 46-year-old woman has been discharged and is back in Gauteng following the armed robbery at the reserve.

A R5000 reward has been offered for any information that will lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in the stabbing and robbery of a woman along the nature trail in the uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve last Friday (April 24).

According to a source, the incident occurred near the bridge over the uMhlanga estuary.

The 46-year-old woman, on holiday from Gauteng, was accosted by a suspect with a knife who stabbed her in the robbery.

The uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has now offered a R5000 reward.

In the incident, the armed suspect made off with the victim’s cellphone, and while security officers responded and searched for the suspect, they only recovered a hat the victim was wearing during the robbery.

She was treated at a local hospital and has since been discharged and is back in Gauteng.

Since the incident Basil Pather, the conservation manager for the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve, confirmed there had been increased patrols by KZN Wildlife staff which have been supplemented by UIP security staff.

There are currently three security guards patrolling the reserve.
