3 killed in KZN pharmacy shooting

A security guard and two employees were among those caught up in a shooting when armed suspects entered a KwaNyuswa pharmacy.

Police are appealing to the public to help with information that could assist in a murder investigation where three people were shot dead at a shopping centre pharmacy in the Valley of a 1000 Hills yesterday (May 19), reports the Highway Mail.

SAPS eThekwini District communications officer, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said it is reported that at approximately 13:55, members of Inchanga SAPS responded to reports of a shooting on Zulu Reserve Road, KwaNyuswa.

Upon arrival at the scene, Rhynes said police found two women victims inside the pharmacy with multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies.

“Both women were declared dead at the scene. A security officer who allegedly attempted to intervene during the incident was also shot. He was rushed to a nearby clinic for medical treatment; however he later succumbed to his injuries,” she said.

According to Rhynes, preliminary reports indicate that three unknown armed suspects entered the pharmacy and immediately opened fire on the two female employees before fleeing the scene.

“A case of murder has been opened and is being investigated by Inchanga SAPS detectives. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made,” she said.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation to contact the nearest police station or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
