Student still missing in hippo-infested Crocodile River

A Mpumalanga search-and-rescue team will continue their search today for the third occupant of a car that plunged into a river on Sunday.

The search for the third occupant of a vehicle involved in a crash has yet to yield any positive results, as hippo-infested waters in the Crocodile River continue to hinder rescue operations.

With the help of drones, the Ehlanzeni Diving Unit captured footage of numerous hippos moving through the river, reports Mpumalanga News.

Captain Pottie Potgieter said the search will continue today (June 9) and that the unit hopes to find the missing man.

According to police, the three students had attended a rugby match earlier in the day and were travelling from a local restaurant when their vehicle plunged into the Crocodile River on Sunday (June 7).

The bodies of Vigo Godfrey (20) and a woman, who has since been identified as Tintswalo Khoza, were recovered on the day of the accident.

This is a developing story.
