Security guard killed in Komatipoort farm attack

The latest deadly farm attack in Mpumalanga has renewed concerns about security on properties in the province.

After nearly two months, tragedy has hit Greyvan Farm in Komatipoort again after a brutal attack claimed the life of a security guard.

The manager of Field Security told Lowvelder that they received a call from the owner yesterday (August 23) at about 21:30 after he heard multiple gunshots.

Similar to a previous attack on July 5, two security guards were tied up by a group of perpetrators at the farm’s banana packhouse.

He added that in the recent incident the guards were badly assaulted and stabbed, and one succumbed to his injuries when emergency services arrived on the scene.

Motive behind attack unknown

According to farm spokesperson Ian de Nysschen, management is baffled by the security guard’s death and is unsure what the motive was for the killing.

“It was such a senseless killing,” he added.

According to Field Security, no suspects have been arrested yet.

SAPS’ comment on the ongoing investigation was not received at the time of publication.
