Video: KZN sardine run delivers another late-season surprise
Fishermen and sardine chasers are keeping a close eye on the coastline after fresh activity raised questions about whether the annual spectacle is truly over.
Just when it seemed the sardine run had run its course, the sardines have made a surprise return along the KZN South Coast, reports South Coast Herald.
Sardines were spotted at Glenmore Beach and Margate Beach on Monday, (August 24), catching many by surprise and reigniting hopes that there could still be more action to come.
The latest sightings were followed by fresh reports of sardine activity off Port Edward, with Insonwane and Team Veez 1 netting this morning (August 25). A second net was pulled out a short while later.
The sightings come after many had begun to believe the annual sardine run was winding down.
For fishermen and sardine chasers, the latest activity is a reminder of just how unpredictable the run can be, with shoals capable of appearing along different parts of the coastline with little warning.
Whether the latest sightings signal another push of sardines along the South Coast or are simply a final surprise remains to be seen.
For now, it seems the show may not be over just yet.
