Murder-suicide at Johannesburg police station

Five officers from the Parkview Police Station in Johannesburg are now receiving counselling after a gruesome murder-suicide occurred at the station in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to the station’s spokesperson, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha, police were called to an address in Parkhurst to attend to an alleged domestic dispute between a 45-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man.

At the scene, it was reportedly established the two individuals were involved in a minor quarrel, Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported.

The two individuals later arrived at the police station in separate cars at about 2.50am. As they were filling domestic violence registration forms, the man allegedly said he would need his reading glasses and left the station to fetch them from his car.

Ramovha added the woman was seated in the front reception area of the police station when the man suspect re-entered with a small concealed revolver.

He immediately shot the female in the head at point blank range.

According to Ramovha, the suspect then turned the gun towards the police officers on duty, who took cover before the suspect turned the gun on himself.

Sergeant Ramovha added statements had been taken from the officers who were at the scene, and that they were now doing a forensic sweep.

In October last year, an intoxicated suspect allegedly grabbed a police officer’s firearm and fired a number of shots inside the Pinetown Police Station, killing an officer.

Two other police officers and a detainee were said to have sustained serious injuries.
