Pretoria father arrested after son takes firearm to school

The father is expected to appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.

A 60-year-old man was arrested for negligence after his 14-year-old son brought a firearm to school, Rekord Moot reports.

Teachers at Burgeright primary school in the west of Pretoria were astonished on Thursday by the incident.

The boy handed the firearm over to his teacher who immediately alerted the police, according to police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.

Upon investigation, the Pretoria West social crime prevention unit discovered that the firearm belonged to the boy’s father.

“At this stage it’s unclear how the boy managed to get hold of the firearm,” Moloto said.

Moloto said police will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“The social development department will also form part of the investigation.”

The father is expected to appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.
