Residents warned to avoid all Pretoria bridges
Pretoria residents have been cautioned to avoid all bridges if possible due to extreme rain storms.
The low-water bridge in Capital Park has been closed following heavy rains on Saturday, Rekord East reports.
DA ward councillor Elma Nel said the bridge was closed at around 17:05.
She said it was expected that the bridge would be closed for the remainder of the day.
“Residents are advised to avoid the bridge – and all bridges – with the extreme rainy weather this weekend,” said Nel.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and to avoid the areas.
In Centurion, DA ward councillor Peter Sutton said the low-water bridges had not yet been closed.
Sutton said, however, that he thinks it was only a “matter of time before the bridges would overflow”.
He would keep residents updated when any brides are closed.
Pretoria has been plagued by power interruptions in the east of the city as extreme weather conditions continue to batter the city on Saturday.
In a statement by the Tshwane metro, they said motorists were also advised to avoid the subway in Steve Biko Road and Jan Shoba Street.
In Laudium, Taj Street has been closed down as residents started cleaning up after a severe hailstorm earlier the day.
