Suspects still at large following Hillcrest business robbery
A case of business robbery has been opened after the owner of the business and a security guard were held up at gunpoint at Aston Financial Services in Hillcrest, Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday morning.
Hillcrest police communications officer Constable Ndumiso Manqele said it is alleged the security guard was preparing to leave after working the night shift when he heard a car hooting outside,Highway Mail reported.
“According to the security officer, he noticed that the driver was wearing a balaclava when he approached the car. One of the occupants pointed a gun at him and demanded that he open the gate,” added Manqele.
“They forced the security guard to the main office. The business owner was also threatened with the gun, and the robbers demanded cash.”
Manqele said they fled the scene with eight computers, a computer monitor, an iPhone 6 and other items.
The total value of stolen items was estimated to be R277 000.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, two armed men were arrested after a business robbery in Temba,Hammanskraal, in Gauteng early this month.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the owner told police two armed men forced him and his brother to lie on the floor at gunpoint.
The robbers kicked the two and demanded money from them. They took R1 500, cigarettes worth R1 000 and airtime worth R2 000 before fleeing in a white Mercedes Benz, added Moremi.
