KZN man out on bail for allegedly killing dad

A 36-year-old man has been granted bail by the Ladysmith Magistrates` Court after he allegedly killed his father at his home in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.

The deceased, Danny Maharaj, 61, died on Monday as a result of injuries he sustained during an assault sparked by an argument between him and his son, Navesh Maharaj, last Wednesday,Ladysmith Gazette reported.

The accused was released on R1 500 bail yesterday and will reappear in court on May 5 to face a charge of murder.

“After his release on bail, Navesh Maharaj attended the funeral of his father and paid his last respect,” said his attorney, Dinesh Lutchman.

Maharaj’s funeral was held yesterday, and he was cremated.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his son following an argument in the Norkem Park area of Kempton Park, on the East Rand in February.

“During the argument, the father took out his licensed firearm and shot his son in the stomach,” said police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme.

The son was later declared dead on the scene, while his father was arrested and charged with murder.
