Suspect in court following Centurion house robbery
A woman has been shot and injured during a house robbery at Amberfield Ridge Estate in Centurion, Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said at 4.10am on Sunday, four armed men entered the house and tied up the residents, Rekord Centurion reported.
“The owners of the house woke up and heard noise coming from the kitchen. As the man and his girlfriend entered the kitchen, they were accosted by two of the four robbers, who overpowered them and tied them up,” added Selepe.
Selepe said as the suspects continued to loot the house, they saw the man’s mother heading to the bathroom, and they started shooting at her, hitting her in the back of the head.
When the estate’s security guards arrived at the scene, three of the suspects had fled, leaving one of their accomplices behind, added Selepe.
The security guards arrested the man before calling police. The woman was rushed to hospital.
The suspects stole two TVs, two laptops, a hard drive and jewellery, estimated at the value of R67 000.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court today.
Last month, a 72-year-old man was shot and injured during a house robbery in Ramsgate, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Arnold Miller had taken his daughter to school, leaving his wife, Patricia Tench-Wilkinson, 57, at home when two armed suspects entered their house.
The suspects then overpowered Miller and led him upstairs, where he managed to slam a security gate between himself and the two men, who then shot him twice in the leg before fleeing.
