Woman in court for shooting children

A 32-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrates’ Court today after she allegedly killed two of her young children.

Two small children, aged 2 and 6, were killed on Friday night after they were allegedly shot by their mother in Walmansthal, near Hammanskraal, Gauteng, Rekord East reported.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Sarah Lesabane said a 32-year-old woman was arrested and held at the Temba Police Station. According to Advanced Paramedic Assist spokesperson Andy Gill, the two children were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

“She faces two counts of murder and will appear at the Moretele Magistrates’ court on Monday. Police are still investigating,” Lesabane said.

This after a woman allegedly killed her two-year-old twins by poisoning them before trying to kill herself in Mohlakeng, Randfontein, in Gauteng last week.

Tarlton police spokesperson Constable Lucky Matombe said the 39-year-old mother of the twins sent a text message to her husband informing him she was going to kill herself and their twins,.

Matombe said the mother tried to kill herself by stabbing herself several times in her upper body in the presence of the police. One of the officers tried to take the knife away from her, but unfortunately she got injured during the process and was taken to the nearest hospital.

The motive for the killing remains unknown.
