Woman in court for allegedly killing newborn daughter

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her baby girl in the KwaMnyandu area, Mbazwana, in KwaZulu-Natal.

It is alleged the suspect gave birth to the infant on Saturday at about 11pm. She allegedly killed it shortly afterwards, Zululand Observer reported.

Major Thulani Zwane said the suspects then went to the Mseleni Hospital and confessed she cut her baby to death. The doctor she spoke to reported the matter to the Mbazwana police, who arrived at the hospital and arrested the suspect.

The suspect appeared in the Mbazwana Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing a charge of murder.

Earlier this month, a man, Lindokuhle Maloka allegedly drowned his daughter in a bucket filled with water in Pienaar, near Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

“Maloka allegedly took the baby to another bedroom, where there was a bucket with water. He then drowned the baby. After the ordeal, he left the lifeless body of the baby inside the bucket and went away after he gave his mother R200,” said Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
