An electrician in Benoni, on the East Rand was allegedly assaulted by a business owner after receiving instructions to disconnect the electricity supply to the company, as the account was in arrears.

“On my way out, the son of the owner was swearing at me. I told him I was not going to talk to him because he was not the owner,” said the victim.
They then proceeded outside to switch off the electricity supply. The man was then hit on the head with a metal pipe by the owner of the business. According to the victim, he received several stitches to the back of his head at the Far East Rand Hospital.
A case of common assault was reportedly opened at the Benoni Police Station, but the station’s spokesperson. Lieutenant Nomsa Sekele. said a common assault case could not be opened without visible injuries to the victim.
However, the victim maintains he was injured and will provide the police with evidence.
It is unclear at this stage if the charge will be changed to assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
