Demons made me do it – Mpumalanga hammer ‘murderer’

Accused hammer murderer Adam Muller will appear again in the Secunda Magistrates’ Court on May 28 pending court-ordered psychiatric evaluation at the Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital.

Muller appeared in court on Wednesday, April 29, on two counts of murder and three of attempted murder after he allegedly hit five people with a hammer in the Mpumalanga town’s CBD last month, Ridge Times reported.

During his appearance, Muller said witchcraft made him special and that “demons” told him he would get a girlfriend if he hit people with a hammer. He added demons spoke to him the whole time and would not go away. When asked in court where the demons were, he said in his face and that they were insulting everybody.

“I tell them to stop all the time and told them I will kill them,” Muller said.

When asked if he knew it was wrong to kill people he responded: “It is apparently wrong, but if God says it is fine, why is it wrong? This is just my opinion.”

He added he had been worshipping Satan since he was a child and that God instructed people to hurt him and that is why he does not like God or going to church. His mother Jenet Muller, who along with his grandmother testified on April 28, said he was very aggressive the evening before the alleged attacks and added he often acted strange and aggressive.

“He used medication before when he also became very aggressive. We were not able to control him,” she said.

His grandmother said he would walk in circles at home and fall on the ground, cursing God.
