KZN man allegedly shoots police officer girlfriend

A 37-year-old policewoman has been shot and injured allegedly by her boyfriend during an argument in Gcilima near Southbroom, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said the woman, Reservist Constable Ntombi Jula was at her house on Thursday at about 8pm with her boyfriend and his friend who is a policeman, South Coast Herald reported.

“An argument broke out between the three, Jula’s boyfriend who was in possession of his friend’s firearm, allegedly shot her in her upper body,” added Mfeka.

“She was rushed to Gcilima Clinic and was later transferred to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital. She is reported to be in a stable condition,” he said.

Police have not released the identity of either the boyfriend or the policeman, who is believed to be stationed at Cedarville near Underberg, added Mfeka. No arrests have yet been made. Investigations are ongoing.

In March, a policewoman, 42, was shot dead by her boyfriend, 21, in Kinross, Mpumalanga. The unidentified officer was shot inside her house and ran outside, where she collapsed and died. Kinross police station Commander Phil Matlala told The Citizen an argument ensued at about 3pm when the boyfriend accused the woman of cheating.

Matlala added the boyfriend then turned the state firearm on himself and died an hour later after he was admitted at Evander Hospital. Police found the firearm on the scene.
