KZN Wetland Park CEO, wife ‘attacked’ by buffalo

Robert McKenzie from KZN Emergency Medical Services said Zaloumis and his wife sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Ngwelezana Hospital for further treatment, Zululand Observerreported.

It remains unclear as to what happened exactly.

Earlier this month, a female buffalo was found dead by a group of cyclists in Fourways, north of Johannesburg. It is believed the animal fell off a truck and died from its injuries. The buffalo was burnt and buried by the Johannesburg Lion Park.

“Initially we planned to feed the buffalo’s carcass to the lions, but later decided to burn and bury it,” said the park’s operations manager, Scott Simpson.

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the owner of the buffalo has not yet been identified.

CCTV footage posted on Youtube by a Fourways resident, Derek Warren, emerged showing a buffalo roaming on the streets in the early hours of the morning, shortly before it was found dead along Cedar Road in Fourways, Johannesburg.

In the video, it is unclear where the buffalo was coming from, but it can be seen wandering in front of the gate of a house on the streets at about 4.39am.
