Father allegedly hangs son, then himself

An inquest docked has been opened after a father allegedly hanged his son in Masakhane township, close to Bela-Bela in Limpopo.

Abraham Mmuti Lebudi, 30, allegedly hanged his son, Theboga Frans Sebolai, 4, on Saturday, Capricorn Review reported.

This happened after Lebudi had an argument in a tavern in Masakhane township, close to Bela-Bela, with the child’s mother, Gontse Dinah Sebolai, 23. According to police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto, Lebudi went home at about 9.15pm and hung him from a tree.

On Sunday morning, Lebudi phoned the child’s relatives and told them where to find Sebolai’s body. He also mentioned they would find his body in close vicinity to that of the child. He apparently then hanged himself, and his body was found hanging from a tree.

Last month, a man allegedly hacked a 17-year-old girl to death with a panga and attempted to murder a 10-year-old child, then allegedly attempting suicide by poisoning on May 7.

The deceased was believed to be a younger sister of the man’s estranged girlfriend. The child is the ex-girlfriend’s. It remains unknown if the suspect is the father of the child.

The ex-girlfriend returned home in the afternoon to find the house locked. She was said to have used a friend’s phone to call her sister, but the call went straight to voicemail. She then called the ex-boyfriend, who responded by SMS, informing her that he had allegedly killed her sister at 11am and the child at 2pm.

In a separate incident, a man had allegedly set himself and his four-year-old grandchild alight in his car in Azaadville, Krugersdorp, on Gauteng’s West Rand.

Provincial police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said the boy’s father went to work with his wife when he received a call from his father-in-law, who said he had the boy and was going to kill him by setting alight a car with the boy inside.
