KFC customer gets raw deal
For the third time in less than a month KFC has had to explain itself after more unflattering images of their food surfaced on social media.
This time a customer at the fried chicken franchise’s branch in Three Rivers, Vereeniging, posted a picture of a meal that allegedly had raw pieces of chicken.
The customer, Wayne Smith, from Vanderbijilpark in the Vaal, on Tuesday posted a picture of a Twister that seemingly had raw chicken inside it. “My raw twister. Thanks KFC,” Smith said in a Facebook post.
Managing director of KFC, Doug Smart, said the head office had been made aware of the incident and were currently conducting an investigation.
“We are committed to following the strictest global standards in terms of food safety and quality, which are outlined in our global food safety guidelines, and we continuously work hard to uphold these standards,” Smart said in a statement.
According to Smart, each KFC restaurant is independently evaluated through unannounced audits throughout the year to ensure they adhere to “the strictest health and safety procedures”.
Less than two weeks ago, a video emerged of a staff member allegedly sharpening knives on a pavement outside a branch in Umhlanga, Durban. The video was taken by a resident at a block of flats across the street from the restaurant.
A few weeks before that, the KFC branch in Braamfontein, Johannesburg caused an uproar on social media following the emergence of a video showing staff at the branch washing pieces of chicken on a concrete floor with a firehose. The branch shut its doors for a few hours after the video leaked to allow inspectors to investigate the incident.
In March, a man allegedly found a chewed-up pen in his chicken and mayonnaise sandwich from a KFC outlet in Pretoria. Martin Koekemoer and his wife Jeanine van Loggerenberg, who found the chewed-up pen in their breakfast sandwich, received an apology. They were also reportedly offered a refund.
