Updated BMW M2 unleashed in SA: Pricing and specs
Boasting more power and torque, BMW’s barnstorming updated M2 has touched down on South African shores. Here's the pricing.
BMW South Africa has unleashed the updated and more powerful M2 on local shores, with the German marque’s high-performance compact coupé sporting a power increase of 15kW, bringing its total power output to 353kW, exclusively sent to the rear axle via either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual cog swapper.

As a reminder, the pre-updated M2 produced 550N.m. However, while the latter remains unchanged in the manual model, for the M Steptronic variant, BMW has uprated the 3l turbocharged inline-six’s torque output to an even healthier 600N.m. In the six-speed manual- and M Steptronic-equipped M2s, the full complement of torque is available from 2 650r/min to 6 130r/min, and 2 700r/min to 5 620r/min, respectively.

According to BMW, the M Steptronic model now completes the obligatory 0-100km/h sprint in four seconds, one-tenth of a second quicker than before, while the updated three-pedal derivative, with its claimed sprint time of 4.1 seconds, accelerates to the three-figure marker from a standstill 0.1 seconds quicker than the previous model. As standard, both models ship with BMW’s M Driver’s Package, which lifts the top speed to 285km/h (from the electronically governed 250km/h).

Updated BMW M2 price in SA
The updated M2 model range is priced from R1 570 988 for the variant equipped with the Bavarian brand’s familiar eight-speed M Steptronic self-shifter, while the six-speed manual derivative will set you back R10 346 more. Included in the sticker price are a two-year/unlimited km warranty and a maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km.
