iCAUR V23 in SA: What’s the cost and what does it offer?

A Chinese automaker’s local arm has revealed pricing and specifications for a retro-styled all-electric SUV.

The iCAUR V23 is available in two flavours: 2WD and AWD – the latter of which CAR mag had an exclusive first look ahead of its official SA launch. Starting with the former, the 2WD is powered by a single electric motor producing 100kW and 180Nm of torque.

Power is delivered to the road via the rear wheels. The 2WD is equipped with a 59.93kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, serving up a claimed 360km (NEDC) operating range. iCAUR says the 59.93kWh LFP item can receive up to 85kW at a DC fast-charging station; allowing for a 30-80% recharge in less than 30 minutes, the Chery sub-brand says. The 2WD completes the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 11s.

The more powerful, AWD model features a dual electric-motor powertrain, coupled with an 81.8kWh battery, which produces combined power and torque outputs of 155kW and 292Nm. iCAUR claims an operating range of up to 430km (NEDC) for the AWD model. Plugged into a DC fast-charging station, the all-paw derivative’s larger battery recharges from 30-80% in less than 30 minutes. The AWD has a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.5s.

As standard, the V23 ships with 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, and a seven-speaker audio system. Both models are equipped with six airbags and Isofix child-seat mounting points. While the 2WD features traditional cruise control, the AWD upgrades to adaptive cruise control, along with several other advanced driver assistance systems, such as blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and front collision warning. The 2WD is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, with the AWD gaining 21-inch items.
