The awards recognise excellence in country music as performed worldwide.
HunTer performed in front of a packed crowd and six judges who are among the top people in the US entertainment industry on November 2.
Artists get 30 minutes each to impress the judges and the crowd.
HunTer sang eight songs, five of which she performed unrehearsed with the band affiliated with the competition, and three of which she sang with tracks.
The award ceremony took place on November 5.
“When they called my name, I thought I misheard,” said HunTer.
“It was amazing performing to a crowd that appreciates live entertainment. It’s awesome to bring this award to South Africa.”
HunTer competed in various categories, including entertainer of the year and songwriter of the year.
The award has opened many doors for her, and now all the hard work starts.
She is planning a nationwide tour and is in the process of producing a country album for release early next year.
She has also been invited to perform in various countries overseas.
HunTer added that a lot more songs and music videos are on the way.
She thanked everyone who made this once in a lifetime opportunity possible.
In particular she thanked Lorinda Jansen van Vuuren, who sponsored the air tickets and vehicle hire, Loutjie and Giel Geldenhuys, who sponsored the accommodation and meals, and the Bapsfontein Hotel for its cash sponsorship.
“All of this happened by the grace of God,” she said.
