Kiwi caipiroska with fresh lime and vodka

Fresh kiwi gives this vodka cocktail a bright flavour and colour, offering a change from the usual citrus-based drinks.

A caipiroska is a close relative of the classic caipirinha, made in the same way but using vodka instead of cachaça. It’s known for being fresh and easy to make, built around a short list of ingredients and served over ice. Using kiwi in this version might not be the obvious choice, but its natural sweetness and acidity work well with vodka.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe kiwis, peeled
  • 120 ml vodka
  • 30 ml sugar syrup, or to taste
  • Ice
  • Soda water, optional
  • Kiwi slices, to garnish

Method

  1. Peel the kiwis and blend until smooth. Strain the juice if you want a clearer drink.
  2. Add the kiwi juice, vodka and sugar syrup to a shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake well until the mixture is properly chilled.
  4. Strain into short glasses over fresh ice.
  5. Top with a splash of soda if you like it lighter.
  6. Garnish with a slice of kiwi and serve straight away.
