1 shot in northern KZN robbery

A man was shot in his left calf when six armed robbers held up a general dealer and got away with various items, including cash.

A 22-year-old Ethiopian national was shot during a business robbery in Amoutana, north of KZN, this morning.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram, they responded to reports of a shooting.

“Members of Rusa were dispatched to the corner of Fana Khumalo Street and Zondi Way after receiving reports of a shooting.

“On arrival, it was established that six armed men entered the general dealer operating out of a shipping container and held up the man. The robbers stole cigarettes, airtime, cash, cellphones and a Flash machine.”

Balram says the robbers fired a single shot.

“The bullet struck the victim on his left calf. He was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by ambulance. A 9mm spent cartridge was recovered at the scene,” says Balram.

It can’t be confirmed if the robbers had a getaway vehicle parked in the vicinity or if they fled on foot, he adds.
