Ten people have been killed and 11 others wounded after gunmen opened fire at an entertainment venue in Lwandle, near Cape Town, in the early hours of this morning (September 27).

SAPS said gunmen opened fire on party-goers in Lwandle, near Strand, shortly before 02:00, reports The Witness.

Five people were declared dead at the scene, while another five died after being taken to hospital.

Eleven other people were transported to medical facilities for treatment.

Lwandle police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder.

“Detectives are hard at work in search of the perpetrators of the shooting incident, with no arrests effected yet,” Western Cape police said.

17 killed in Gauteng tavern shooting

The shooting comes just hours after a separate mass shooting outside Carletonville, Gauteng, where 17 people were killed and 15 wounded after armed men opened fire at a tavern.

Police said at least eight suspects, armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols, were involved in that attack.

The two latest mass shootings also come days after 11 people, including a pregnant woman, were killed when three gunmen opened fire on a group at a house in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

No arrests had been made in the Lwandle or Carletonville shootings at the time of publishing.
