13-year-old shot and killed in KZN

Witnesses say three men assaulted the deceased and his friends, while questioning about a firearm the victim was previously seen with.

A 13-year-old boy was killed outside his home, execution style, in Amoutana, KZN, yesterday.

The Witness reports that according to Prem Balram, the spokesperson of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a resident contacted their operations centre at 13:03 requesting emergency medical assistance for the critically injured minor.

“Rusa members were provided with a WhatsApp location to the scene. On arrival, reaction officers and paramedics abandoned their vehicles and walked several metres down a steep narrow foot path to reach the boy’s home,” he says.

Balram adds that upon examination, the boy was found to have sustained close proximity gunshot wounds to the back of his neck, above his left eye and his left hand.

“He showed no signs of life and was pronounced deceased. Witnesses informed reaction officers that the deceased was chatting to friends in the yard when three balaclava clad males confronted them. They began assaulting the minors while questioning them about the location of a firearm the deceased was previously seen with.

“They then shot the victim before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction. The fatally injured boy is a Grade 6 [learner] at Kwaginga Primary School in Amoutana,” he adds.
