19-year-old arrested after fatal stabbing in George

A 21-year-old man died in Reiger Park after a fight turned fatal in the early hours of this morning.

A 21-year-old man died in Reiger Park, Pacaltsdorp, George, in the early hours of this morning after sustaining a stab wound to the neck.

George Herald reports that, according to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the Pacaltsdorp police took a 19-year-old man into custody on a murder charge.

Spies says that according to reports available at this stage, a group was gathered in a yard near the corner of Copper and Sunstone streets in Reiger Park.

A fight broke out between two men and during the altercation, they moved towards the street corner.

“The victim sustained a stab wound to the neck and collapsed. He was later declared dead by paramedics on scene. The suspect also sustained stab wounds to his shoulder and hand,” says Spies.

The incident happened at about 01:30.

“The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court during the course of this week on a murder charge. This is an ongoing police investigation,” adds Spies.
