2 mine employees busted with explosives, gold worth R14m in Carletonville
Police allege that the one of the suspects was selling explosives to cash-in-transit robbers.

An investigation into the selling and distribution of explosives to cash-in-transit robbers have led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man yesterday. In a separate sting operation on the same day, a woman was arrested with seven kilograms of gold. Both were employees at Sibanye-Stillwater.
SAPS West Rand District Commissioner General Fred Kekana says the investigation into how explosives from the mine reached CIT robbers took several months. A sting operation involved the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, the Carletonville Detectives, the SAPS Highway Patrol and the West Rand Explosives Unit.

The suspect was arrested in front of the Wimpy in the Carletonville CBD yesterday afternoon. It is alleged that police found explosives, fuses and detonators as well as R30 000 in his possession.
Police also searched the man’s house where they claim to have found more fuses, hidden in clothes drawers.

The previous night, a 38-year-old woman, was arrested at East Driefontein, allegedly in possession of seven kilograms of amalgamated gold worth R14m at around 23:30.
The woman has already appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court where she was denied bail. She will appear in court again next week Tuesday.
