20-year-old shot while waiting to check matric results

Sources say the learner was waiting for a newspaper when a group of men attempted to rob him.

PIETERMARITZBURG – A case of murder is being investigated after a 20-year-old learner was shot dead while waiting to get a newspaper to see his matric results.

Capital Newspapers understands that five men approached the young man and tried to rob him of his cellphone while he was waiting at a petrol garage in Alexandra Road, Pietermaritzburg in the early hours of Friday morning.

When the learner refused to hand his phone over, one of the suspects reportedly drew a firearm and shot him in the head and arm.

The gunman and his accomplices then fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.
