3 brutal murders in 1 week in eMalahleni
A series of violent incidents has claimed the lives of three people eMalahleni, sparking fear and concern across the community.
A deadly wave of violence has struck eMalahleni, leaving three men dead in separate incidents marked by gunfire, fear, and alleged mob justice.
Police confirmed that they are investigating three separate murder cases and have appealed to the public to provide information to bring the killers to justice.
Ritual gathering disrupted by gunfire
On Sunday (June 29) two men stormed a family busy with a ritual gathering in Thushanang. Police say the men demanded cellphones from their victims.
One suspect was reportedly armed. Witnesses say the suspect became aggressive, forcing people into the garage.
When one family member, described as mentally challenged, refused to hand over his phone and tried to flee, the suspect allegedly opened fire. The man was struck multiple times and died at the scene.
Body found in car riddled with bulletholes
Just three days earlier, a man was found slumped over the steering wheel of a Mazda, riddled with bullets in Extension 16.
According to police, the man was shot through the rear window of his vehicle. The bullets tore through his chest and exited through the driver’s door.
Unable to control the car, he veered off the road and came to a stop in a ditch. He was declared dead on the scene.
Alleged mob justice in KwaGuqa
In the thrid incident, a man accused by residents of harassing the community was allegedly beaten to death near a tavern in KwaGuqa Extension 10 on June 24.
Police say they were called to the scene to find the victim badly injured. He was rushed to Witbank General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
