3 killed in KZN truck crash

Authorities have launched an investigation after a deadly N2 crash in Ophongolo, with KZN’s transport MEC vowing stricter measures against trucks.

Three people have died and two others were seriously injured in a crash involving a truck and a light motor vehicle on the N2 in Ophongolo on Saturday afternoon, The Witness reports.

Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma sent condolences to the families of the victims and said that Road Traffic Inspectorate and emergency services responded to the scene.

One lane was closed while recovery operations continued. The matter has been handed over to the police for investigation.

Duma said operations targeting trucks would be intensified at more than 17 weighbridges across the province.
