3 taxi drivers killed in 2 shootings near Hazyview
Three taxi drivers were shot dead in two separate incidents in the Calcutta area near Hazyview.
The Calcutta police are investigating three murders of taxi drivers in two separate shooting incidents that occurred yesterday.
Mpumalanga News reports that, according to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, in the first incident, police received a complaint at about 10:00 regarding a shooting along the Oakley Trust main road near Hazyview.
“Upon arrival, police found two men dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Nine empty rifle cartridges were recovered at the scene. Paramedics certified both victims dead,” she says.
Ndubane adds that two Quantum taxis, believed to be from the Marite Taxi Association, were found at the scene.
The deceased were reportedly shot outside their vehicles. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown. The bodies were transported to a government mortuary for post-mortem examinations, and investigations are ongoing.
“In a second, unrelated incident reported about an hour later, police attended another shooting at Alexandria Trust near Marite. Officers found a man dead with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. At the scene, 26 empty rifle cartridges and 11 pistol cartridges were recovered,” Ndubane says.
She says no witnesses have come forward with information regarding the circumstances leading to this murder.
The deceased is believed to be a taxi driver affiliated with the Mathibela Taxi Association.
Police are appealing to members of the public for any information that may assist in the arrest of the perpetrators.
