4 arrested following Pretoria West high-speed chase

A tip-off to police about a vehicle involved in a hijacking resulted in the arrest of four people.

Lyttelton police and Monitor Net security arrested four suspects for possession of car-breaking equipment in Pretoria West on Friday.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk says police received information about a silver Nissan Qashqai used in a hijacking.

Following the tip-off, a multi-disciplinary operation was launched and officers were deployed in Pretoria West.

The team monitored a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, with four occupants inside. It was spotted driving in Pretoria West, towards Danville.

Van Dyk says the suspects fled from the officers and a high-speed chase ensued.

Measures to stop the vehicle were taken and the car was stopped in the Danville residential area.

Four suspects were arrested by Lyttelton police, for being in possession of car-breaking equipment, says Van Dyk.

“The vehicle was taken to the designated vehicle crime investigation unit for safeguarding and further investigations,” he adds.
