4 robbery suspects killed during a shoot-out with police in Durban

Police arrested seven suspects while several others escaped during a shoot-out with police in Woodlands.

Four suspects were killed in a shoot-out with police in Woodlands, Montclair yesterday.

Seven more suspects were arrested at the scene and several others managed to escape, Southlands Sun reports.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the suspects were wanted in connection with business robbery cases that happened in various areas in eThekwini.

The suspects are also linked to a robbery of a jewellery store in Tongaat on January 15.

Netshiunda said the police were acting on  information received about the whereabouts of the suspects.

“When police arrived at a private residence on Glanville Road, which doubles up as a rental home, there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and police officers. During the shoot-out, four suspects were shot and fatally wounded. Seven more suspects were arrested with injuries,” said Netshiunda.

Three firearms were recovered at the scene.

“A search is ongoing for at least five suspects who narrowly evaded arrest. The arrested suspects will be under police guard at hospital and will be taken to court when fit to do so,” Netshiunda added.
