4 suspected hijackers injured after shoot-out with Boksburg police

Four men suspected to be behind several hijackings and robberies have been hospitalised, while a fifth suspect got away.

The Boksburg Advertiser was on the scene in Witfield, Boksburg, last night where four suspected hijackers were shot and injured during a confrontation with the police.

While the newspaper awaits official comment about the incident from the SAPS, it has learned that police spotted a suspicious white Toyota Etios sedan with five occupants at a petrol station on the corner of 10th Avenue and Cason Road at about 20:00.

Officers reportedly approached the vehicle and the occupants opened fire on the police while trying to escape.

Police returned fire and the driver of the Etios then lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a tree. It happened on the corner of Sett Street and Pretoria Road.

Four of the suspects sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. The fifth suspect got away.

Two firearms were found in the Etios.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in a series of delivery bike hijackings and robberies in Boksburg and possibly surrounding areas.

Police and various security companies and organisations were also at the scene fine-combing the area.
