6 arrested in connection with renowned rapper AKA’s murder
Police, who have linked bullet cartridges to the murders of a well-known rapper and his friend, say they have a solid case.
Police Minister Bheki Cele last night said six people have been arrested in connection with the murder of rapper AKA (Keinan Forbes) and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.
Forbes and Motsoane were killed outside the Wish restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023.
KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says those arrested allegedly played different roles in executing the murder.
One was the organiser of the firearms and the mastermind of the hit, two were spotters, two others carried out the attack, and one drove the getaway vehicle.
“There was a spotter inside the restaurant and the other was outside the restaurant,” says Mkhwanazi.
He explains that one of the spotters followed AKA from the airport when he arrived in Durban.
Four vehicles were used in the crime, says Mkhwanazi. Two of them were hired and have been handed back to the owner.
The first vehicle and the firearm used were recovered last year.
“In June, we were able to link the bullet cartridges to the murder,” says Mkhwanazi.
He adds that those arrested are linked to other murder cases.
Four of the suspects are in police custody, while two are in Swaziland.
Mkhwanazi says there’s a possibility that others will also be arrested.
