6 dead after buses collide near Mossel Bay

The buses, carrying more than 100 people, were driving in opposite directions when they collided.

Six people have died and more than 25 had to be transported to hospital after two buses collided on the N2 near Mossel Bay in the Western Cape this morning. The buses belonged to Williams and Intercape.

According to the Mossel Bay municipality the accident happened at around 01:30.

Municipal spokesperson Cornelle Carstens says a section of the N2 was closed and that an investigation team from Cape Town was on the scene to investigate.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, says there were more than 100 passengers on the buses when they collided.

The six deceased were still alive when emergency workers arrived but passed away on the scene shortly thereafter. Both bus drivers count among the dead.
