7 arrested in connection with kidnapping of Randburg businessman

Nigerian nationals were nabbed after another Nigerian man was kidnapped in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

A Nigerian businessman was rescued by the SAPS anti-kidnapping task team yesterday.

The 48-year-old man was kidnapped in Fordsburg, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

“In less than 24 hours, the SAPS team traced the victim and suspects to a lodge in Ferndale, Randburg, on Thursday evening,” said national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

According to Mathe, six vehicles used by the suspects have been seized and impounded for further investigation. Money believed to have been withdrawn from the businessman’s bank account has also been recovered.

“In the last two years, the anti-kidnapping task team has arrested at least 300 suspects where victims were kidnapped for ransom payments,” she added.
