88-year-old East Rand man stabbed to death in garden
An elderly man’s life was cut short after he was attacked and stabbed in his yard.
Police have launched a manhunt for four men after an 88-year-old man was fatally stabbed while gardening at his home in Rynfield, Ekurhuleni.
The incident took place at around 10:00 on September 21.
According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele, the attackers allegedly gained access by jumping over the wall.
They approached the victim, but it is not known what they said to him when they confronted him.
“The man’s wife, who was in the house, heard a noise outside and peeked through the window. She saw her husband lying on the ground with two men standing next to him. The wife locked the door and a few minutes later, two other suspects demanded she open it,” says Sekele.
It is alleged that the wife pressed a panic button and the men fled the scene.
The victim sustained multiple stabbed wounds to the upper body and was declared dead on the scene.
A case of murder has been opened at Benoni SAPS, and investigations are underway.
Sekele urges the public to remain vigilant and always check their surroundings.
The police are appealing to the community to assist in finding the perpetrators. Anyone with information contact crime stop on 08600 10111.
