9 arrested after robbery at KZN liquor store

A group dressed in police uniform entered the store and subsequently stole alcohol, cash, and a sound system.

Nine people were arrested and several police uniforms and firearms seized following a robbery at the Sithembile Bottle Store (known colloquially as Ebhareni) early yesterday morning.

It is said that the group – dressed as police officers – robbed the store of alcohol, cash, and a sound system.

Following a tip-off, members of the Glencoe K9 and Umzinyathi District Crime Intelligence Unit swooped on a home in Sibongile, in the KZN town of Dundee, where the suspects were said to be packing up their belongings and were about to leave.

All nine suspects, including one woman, were arrested.

The looted alcohol and other goods were also recovered.

“These suspects will also be profiled to see if they don’t link with the robberies that have been taking place between Dundee and Glencoe. They will appear in [the] Dundee Magistrate’s Court [soon],” a SAPS spokesperson says.

The district police commissioner, Major-General Francis Slambert, applauded those engaged in successfully arresting the offenders.
