9 children injured in bakkie crash in Pietermaritzburg

Emergency crews treated nine learners after a bakkie overturned on a Pietermaritzburg road during the morning commute.

Multiple children were injured when a bakkie driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle on Cramond Road in Pietermaritzburg, KZN, this morning.

According to Craig Both, from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, they responded to the incident around 07:45.

The Witness reports that a bakkie carrying schoolchildren, aged 15-18 years, overturned.

“Nine children sustained injuries ranging in severity. Three sustained serious injuries, while six others received minor injuries. Paramedics from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service provided immediate on-scene medical care before transporting the injured to local hospitals,” he says.

Botha says the cause of the crash is under investigation by the relevant authorities.
