Accident on N4 kills woman and 18-month-old baby

The police will investigate the cause of an accident in Mpumalanga that claimed the lives of a woman and young child.

A woman estimated to be 43 years old and a little girl estimated to be 18 months old lost their lives after colliding with a Volvo articulated truck yesterday.

The accident occurred on the N4 between Machadodorp and Belfast in Mpumalanga. 

The spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, said it is alleged that the sedan lost control and veered off the road.

The Volvo articulated truck that was involved in the accident.

“The accident will be subjected to normal investigation by the police. We have picked up the N4 as a priority route. We want to urge motorists to play their part and drive with caution.”

“Although it has not been confirmed if this accident was caused by the weather, we want to encourage motorists to adjust their driving during rainy weather,” he said.
