Acid victim jumps from moving vehicle to escape KwaDukuza kidnapper

A 28-year-old Thembeni resident has been arrested for the crime.

A woman jumped from a moving vehicle, breaking her leg, to escape her boyfriend who had allegedly poured acid over her and claimed he would murder her.

The 32-year-old woman was reportedly attacked by her boyfriend, a 28-year-old Thembeni resident in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday in his home.

He was arrested by KwaDukuza police on Sunday and was charged with attempted murder.

According to KwaDukuza police spokesperson Priya Nunkumar, the boyfriend allegedly poured acid onto her face and head, causing her extreme pain.

“The victim screamed, which alerted the suspect’s friends who were nearby,” said Nunkumar.

When he opened the door she attempted escape but he forced her into his vehicle, claiming he would take her to hospital.

Instead he drove towards Doringkop allegedly claiming he would kill her.

He was driving into a sugar cane field at Doesburg when she jumped from the car and was rescued by witnesses.

“The victim was assisted by two members of the community who were passing by, and the suspect fled the scene.

“He was later arrested and will appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court in due time, and the matter will be investigated by KwaDukuza Saps detectives of the serious and violent crimes unit,” said Nunkumar.
